In today's fast-paced world, finding time to exercise can feel like a daunting task. Balancing work, family, and social obligations often leaves little room for fitness. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. However, staying active is crucial for maintaining overall health and wellbeing, and, it doesn't have to be abandoned. Just scheduled in a little more intently. So, Here are some practical tips to help you fit workouts into a busy schedule and keep your fitness goals on track.
1. Prioritize Your Workouts
Treat your workouts like important appointments. Schedule them into your calendar and stick to them. Consistency is key, so even short, regular workouts can make a significant difference over time. Its all about the compound effect baby! I find this tip works great with high achieving people, as some of us look at calendar events as absolute must do's.
2. Opting for Short, High-Intensity Workouts
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is perfect for busy people's schedules. These workouts involve short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief rest periods. A 10-20 minute HIIT session can even burn more calories and improve fitness levels faster than longer, moderate workouts. Get more bang for your fitness buck focusing on intensity over duration.

3. Incorporate Exercise into Daily Activities
Find opportunities to be active throughout your day. We live in a time where convenience robs us of activity our ancestors would routinely have. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk or bike to work, or do a quick workout during lunch breaks. Even small amounts of activity can add up and contribute to your fitness goals. I like to park all the way in the back when I go to the supermarket. In the time we can spend hunting for the closest spot to the store, we could use that to walk and avoid the headache.
4. Use Technology to Your Advantage
Fitness apps and online workout videos can provide guided sessions that fit into your schedule. Many apps offer workouts ranging from 5 to 30 minutes, allowing you to exercise anywhere, anytime. One of my favorites, "Workout Trainer" by skimble is great as you can put a specific time like 10 minutes. Plus, tracking your progress can keep you motivated and accountable.
5. Multitask When Possible
This is so key for me personally I cant even express the importance this can have. Combine workouts with other activities. For example, you can watch your favorite TV show while on a treadmill or listen to audiobooks or podcasts during a run. This way, you’re entertained and staying fit simultaneously. However, there is merit to the mindfulness exercise can bring. For some, you may benefit more with the disconnection from work mode.

6. Plan Efficient Workouts
Focus on exercises that work multiple muscle groups simultaneously, such as squats, lunges, and push-ups. Compound movements are time-efficient and provide a full-body workout in a shorter amount of time. Why do 4 sets of 10 bicep curls when you can hit them way better with more muscles involved doing something like chin ups.
7. Utilize Early Mornings or Late Evenings
If your days are packed, consider working out early in the morning or later in the evening. These quieter times can be ideal for fitting in a workout without interruptions. You got to get it in when you can. Early morning, as much as I hate getting up early, is great as your not distracted with the hustle and bustle as say the 5pm gym rush.
8. Busy People Keep Workout Gear Handy
Always have your workout clothes and equipment ready to go. Keeping a set of workout clothes in your car or at your office can make it easier to seize opportunities for spontaneous exercise. This tip has been a game changer for myself personally. There have been times when I randomly would drive past a park and seen friends of mine playing a leisurely game of pick up ball. With my change of clothes in the trunk I was able to have some quick fun.
9. Stay Active with Family and Friends
Turn social activities into active ones. Go for a walk with friends, play a sport with your kids, or join a fitness class with a partner. This not only helps you stay active but also strengthens your relationships. Me and my partner love playing tennis. We use this quality time to chat about various things as well as get a nice gentle sweat in.
10. Be Kind to Yourself
Finally, remember that it's okay to miss a workout occasionally. Life happens, and the key is not to get discouraged. Aim for progress, not perfection, and recognize that every bit of movement counts towards your overall health. A "dub is a dub" as the kids like to say. Celebrate the small achievement you made instead of what you could have done.

Staying fit on a tight schedule is possible with a bit of creativity and planning. By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can maintain an active lifestyle without sacrificing other important aspects of your life. Remember, fitness is a journey, and every small step you take brings you closer to your goals. So, make time for yourself, stay active, and enjoy the benefits of a healthier, more energetic life.
